Interview preparation

  • Preparation is essential- researching the potential employer, and it’s main business functions ,area, directions, parking /travel arrangements. Check out the company website and search the internet for as much details as possible.
  • Find out the name of the person interviewing you
  • Print out spare copies of your CV to take with you
  •  Take a copy of any Job Description/Person Specification with you to refer to.
  • Prepare some answers relating to how your past experience/work history fits in with the role you are applying for.
  • Plan your journey time  and take a company contact number in case of any problems

   At The Interview

  •  Dress appropriately, paying attention to grooming and appearance.  Research indicates that first impressions count so it is always advisable to dress in smart office wear
  • Arrive  a few minutes early
  • Switch off your mobile telephone
  • Be polite and smile to everyone you meet including reception staff
  •  Greet your interviewer warmly with a handshake
  • Try not to appear nervous and make eye contact with your interviewer/s
  • Remember to listen as well as talk!
  • Ask when you will hear back from them after the interview

 

Interview questions: 

Expect some general as well job related   questions and be prepared with a few of your own.

Definate NO-NOs

 ·         Don’t be late

·         Do not interrupt the interviewer

 ·         Do not criticise previous employers  

·         Do not make up answers about your past 

 

Closing the interview:

  • Thank the interviewer for his/her time and consideration of you.
  •  Be positive that you are the right person for the job.

After the interview:

  • learn from any mistakes – make a list of things you felt went well and those that didn’t.
  • Ask the employer or your recruitment consultant for any feedback and use this information to improve your interview technique in the future.
